The western shoreline along Lucia Riverbend Highway carries the most-used public access to Mountain Island Lake. Small lot, straightforward ramp, no services.
Lucia is a community in eastern Lincoln County, and Lucia Riverbend Highway is the road that carries traffic along the northwestern side of Mountain Island Lake between Mount Holly and the Lincoln County line. Public access on this side of the water is the practical entry point for boaters and anglers who are not launching from a private dock.

- Public access on this lake is operated by public agencies — the state wildlife agency and county park systems — not by a commercial marina.
- Facilities
- Expect a ramp, a gravel or paved lot and little else. No fuel, no store, no slips, no pump-out anywhere on this lake.
- Parking
- Trailer capacity is the limiting factor. Summer weekend mornings fill early and there is no overflow.
- Hours and fees
- Set by the operating agency and subject to change. Confirm the current posting for the specific access before you tow.
- Paddlers
- Kayaks and canoes can launch here, but the site is built for trailers. Hand-carry access on preserve land is usually calmer.
Launching safely here
- Rig in the lot, not on the ramp. There is rarely room to wait politely.
- Check generation before you go — the pool and the current both move.
- Stay clear of marked exclusion zones near the dams and the water intakes.
- Life jackets aboard for everyone; this is drinking water and enforcement is real.
- Pack everything out. The lake supplies drinking water to roughly a million people.
